Closures: The National Forest has implemented an area closure west of Highway 149 and north of County Road 20 in Hinsdale and Gunnison Counties. For further information visit:  https://www.fs.usda.gov/r02/gmug/alerts

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has implemented a temporary emergency closure for public lands, roads and trails north of County Road 20 (Engineer Pass). The closure includes Nellie Creek, the Uncompahgre Trailhead and the upper portion of County Road 24 (North Henson) from Capitol City to the Wetterhorn and Matterhorn areas. Road Closures: Forest Service Road 7868 (Alpine Road) remains closed. Some public maps display the route as Road 868. Forest Service roads 877 (Nellie Creek) and 870 (Matterhorn Trailheads) to the north are closed.

No Fly Zone: A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) over the area remains in effect. Flying drones near the fire is prohibited and can interfere with firefighting aircraft, potentially grounding aerial suppression operations. http://knowbeforeyoufly.org.

2026 Community Junk Cleanup Weekends

Saturday June 13th,  Sunday June 14th, Saturday August 29th, Sunday August 30th

Time: 9:00pm to 3:30pm

Location: Lots North of the Medical Center

Instructions: Please wait to enter the lots until the attendant at the property asks for address, explains where to dump what junk, and lets you into the lots. 

In the spirit of community collaboration, the Town of Lake City is organizing two Community Junk Cleanup weekends this summer to assist the Town of Lake City residential property owners dispose of metal junk, free of charge.

Location: Empty Town-Owned Lots North of the Medical Center on Henson Street.

Accepted Items: 

·         Appliances: refrigerators/freezers (Freon must be removed), ovens, washers, dryers, grills, hot water heaters etc.  

·         Scrap Metal (Copper, Aluminum, Brass, Steel, Stainless Steel)

·         Vehicle Batteries

·         Electronic Waste: Microwaves, CD/DVD players, PC’s, Printers, etc. – No Monitors or Televisions

·         Snow Mobiles, ATV’s, OHV’s, dirt bikes, motorcycles etc.  

·         Motors, axels, engines, rotors, brakes, metal vehicle parts, etc.

·         Lawn mowers, snow blowers, weed eaters, etc.

·         Metal T-Posts, metal fencing, metal roofing, metal posts

·         Metal siding, corrugated metal and construction materials

·         Metal chairs. metal shelving, metal scaffolding, metal furniture etc.

·         Electrical wires, coaxal cables

* Water & Sewer Updates 

                          -  The Town recently released the 2026 Water & Sewer Rates Notice. The October Newsletter furtherdelves into the Upcoming Rates and the Future plans of the Water & Sewer Department.  

                          -  The Town is implementing an additional feature for viewing your utility statements! Our current bill provider additionally offers ebilling options to view your statements.   We have begun to send out Email Notifications to give customers an additional source for viewing their utility bills.
